Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com October 30, 2014, 2:48 am Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Thursday, February 18, 1943 Hong-Lowe Wedding In a double ring ceremony at Our Lady of the Peace cathedral, Miss Rita Ivy Lowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney H. Lowe, became the bride of James Patrick Hong. The wedding took place January 30, with the Rev. Father Lawrence Vaughan officiating. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was dressed in a gown of white satin designed with leg of mutton sleeves, V shaped neckline gathered yoke, tiny bound buttons from neckline to waist and a full skirt which fell into a train. Her veil of misty tulle was caught in place with a tiara of orange blossoms and net. She carried a spray of lady slipper and butterfly orchids. Her only jewelry was a pearl strand, a gift of the bridegroom. The attendants, Mrs. Mary D. Tam, matron of honor, Miss Ellen Lowe, maid of honor, and the Misses Lillian Young and Loretta Hong, sister of the bridegroom, were all dressed in white. Their gowns were fashioned with fitted bodices of moire and full taffeta skirts. They carried French boquets of ground orchids and wore brief net veils caught in place with matching flowers. Best man was Raymond Hong brother of the bridegroom, and ushers included Alfred Hong, another brother of the bridegroom, Henry H. Lowe, brother of the bride, and Timmy Lau. The bride's mother wore a navy blue dress with white accessories and an orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom was dressed in a Chinese gown of cut velvet accented by an orchid corsage. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the House in the Garden, Nuuanu valley. A Hawaiian troupe played during the reception hours. Mrs. Hong was graduated from Sacred Hearts academy and is now employed by the USED. Her husband was graduated from St. Louis college and is with the Naval Contractors. They are at home to friends at 56 New Era lane.
