Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com March 3, 2014, 9:16 pm The Honolulu Advertiser, Sunday, June 9, 1935 Meyer-McPherren Rites Solemnized At Makiki Home Easter lilies and ferns formed the green and white background for the ceremony Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Makiki Round Top home of G. C. Munro, uniting in marriage Miss Berenice Margaret McPherren and August William Meyer Jr. The Rev. Mr. R. Tanner Brown read the marriage lines. The bride was gowned in a princess model of white satin designed with an upstanding collar of lace and long sleeves inserted with lace. Tiny satin- covered buttons trimmed the back, and the skirt ended in a lace train. The veil of Brussels lace and tulle extended from a cap of pearls and lace. The bridal bouquet was a combination shower of lilies-of-the-valley, gardenias and other white flowers. Mrs. R. R. McPherren, who sailed for her home in Seattle, Wash, yesterday, gave her daughter in marriage, and was also the only attendant to the bride at the ceremony. Mrs. McPherren wore a long gown of Brussels lace and a corsage of island flowers. Mrs. August William Meyer, mother of the bridegroom, wore a flowered chiffon gown with a corsage to match. Charles Edward Meyer was his brother's best man. Miss Helen B. MacNeil played the wedding music. Following the ceremony, a reception was held for members of the family and intimate friends. The rooms of the Munro home were arranged with lilies and pink shower blossoms. The junior Mrs. Meyer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. McPherren of Seattle, and is the assistant registrar at the University of Hawaii. She graduated from the University of Washington and on Tuesday, she received her master of arts degree from the local university. She is also a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. Mr. Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Meyer of Honolulu, is in business with his father, who owns the Meyer Drug Company. The bridegroom is a graduate of the University of Hawaii and is at present a member of the Territorial Board of Pharmacy. He is also afflilated with Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. The newly-weds are spending their honeymoon "somewhere on Oahu" and upon their return to Honolulu after June 15, will make their home at 2006 Hunnewell street.
