Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com August 1, 2014, 3:21 am The Honolulu Advertiser, Sunday, June 13, 1937 Arlene Noyes Is Bride Of Mr. Thompson Before lighted tapers at the altar of the Church of the Crossroads, Miss Arlene Eleanor Noyes, daughter of Mrs. Lillian Noyes of Buffalo, N.Y., became the bride of Mr. A. Watson Thompson Friday afternoon at the Church of the Crossroads. Dr. Walter Homan read the marriage service, assisted by Dr. John L. Hopwood. Music for the ceremony was played from the church tower. Preceding the bridal party was a procession of six girls dressed in ivory colored silk choir robes with necklines trimmed in red. As the organ and chimes played "Labe Den Herron" the girls lit the tapers at the altar. They were Anna Bodnar, Thelma Kinney, Joan Arakawa, Vivian Chang, Alice Yawata and Mabel Huewaa. The bride was gowned in white marquisette fashioned on princess lines with a high neck and full puffed sleeves fitted at the wrist. The skirt was made with a panel that formed a train. A shoulder tulle veil was held to her coiffure by a coronet of satin. Her flowers were white Mexican creeper, roses and white delphiniums. Mrs. Charles Barrett, the matron of honor wore blush pink crepe made on princess lines with small pleating accenting the neck and skirt. She wore a coronet of Cecil Bruner roses and forget-me-nots with a bouquet to match. Mr. Charles Barrett served as the best man. After the ceremony a receptiion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Grimms where pink and white gladioli, pale blue delphiniums and pink sweet peas were arranged on the bride's table. Easter lilies and gardenias were arranged throughout the home and Hawaiian music was played during the receiving hours. Odetta Kanna of Mid-Pacific Institute, danced the hula. Mrs. Grimm was gowned in ivory lace with a picture hat to match. She wore a corsage of Cecil Bruner roses and forget-me-nots. Assisting her was Mrs. John L. Hopwood, who wore blue lace and a corsage of pink and blue; and Mrs. Joseph Noyes gowned in pink crepe. The bride's going away costume was of lavender and white dotted swiss, trimmed with Irish lace. Her accessories were white. Mrs. Thompson is health director of Mid-Pacific Institute. Mr. Thompson is with the Tripler General hospital staff. The couple will make their home at 626 Maui street.
