Elias Delapena, Filipino, aged 20, living at Pakala camp near Waimea, is dead as the result of being struck by auto No. 313 driven by Ganiko Sabura. The young man, accompanied by several others, all on bicycles, had left a baseball game at Makaweli park and were riding on the belt road. The evidence obtained by the coroner's jury seemed to show that they were racing. At any rate, Delapena at the time of the accident was lying upon his machine and speeding to the extent that he did not see the oncoming auto and plunged headlong into it. The victim of the accident was hurled violently to the ground and received such injuries, internal and external, that he died a short time later. The jury, in its verdict, completely exonerated the driver of the auto and declared that Delapena came to his death as a result of his own carelessness.
