PROF. L. W. HART PASSES AWAY. Professor L. W. Hart, who died at Waimea on the 14th of January 1919, was born near London in February 1837 and was thus at the time of his death almost 83 years of age. Like all of his family, he was a musician of great ability and was for instance in his boyhood a member of the famous Chapel Royal Choir at Windsor, England. His life's work was, however, scientific photography, and about 50 years ago he was called by the Australian government to undertake for it important work in this line and occupied for many years the chair as professor of photography in the University at Melbourne, Australia, and his old friends will remember the interesting lectures he gave along this line some years ago here on Kauai. He was a brother of the late Judge Hart of Honolulu and came to Kauai 18 years ago and made his home with his niece, Mrs. Francis Gay, at Kekupua until three years ago when he went to stay with Mr. Brandt at Waimea where he passed away. He was a man of fine, lofty ideals and great intellectual gifts and will be missed by his many friends.
