MISS JONES DIED ON THE LUSITANIA. It has been definitely established that Miss Margaret D. Jones, formerly connected with the Lihue hospital, went down in the wreck of the Lusitania. The Advertiser of Honolulu gives the following history of Miss Jones in the Islands: Miss Margaret D. Jones, one of the best-known trained nurses in the Islands, is the only passenger from Honolulu now believed to have been drowned in the destruction of the Lusitania. A cablegram received yesterday by James Wakefield confirmed his previous message that Mrs. Mary Wakefield, his sister-in-law, had been rescued but placed Miss Jones among the missing whose bodies have not been recovered. Miss Jones came to Honolulu in the latter part of 1895 with Dr. John Brodie, who opened a private sanitarium on the site where the Moana Hotel now stands. When he died the following year, she removed to Queen's Hospital where she was one of the staff of nurses until May 1, 1901. At that time she resigned in order that she might return to England for a special course in her profession. After she had completed the course, she came back to Honolulu and for a time took special cases. Later she left private duties to become head nurse of the Lihue hospital, Kauai. Returning to Honolulu again, she took charge of the Kaiulam home for girls in King Street. At that time, Mrs. Wakefield, a widow in broken health, sought a traveling companion to take her back to her home in Birmingham, England, Miss Jones was with the family of Mrs. Clarence Cooke. Being English herself, the offer appealed to her and she accepted it. Miss Jones had relatives living in Darlington, England, and a married sister in Quebec.
