While playing hide and seek with five other children of about his own age, Kuichi Kawashige, aged eight years of Koloa, decided to hide in one of the iron ash boxes which are used by the Koloa mill, and when the boy lowered himself down into one, he immediately sank and was engulfed in the powdery substance. His playmates, 15 or 20 minutes later, noticed his hand projecting above the ash surface but when the body was drawn out, life was extinct.
