Dietrich Klussmann, Father Klussman as he was known by all the children, and a familiar and picturesque figure in the landscape with his Santa Claus beard and his cane, was a victim of Sunday's storm. He lived at Maulua, far up the valley that comes down to the mill. About the middle of the afternoon, he went out to watch the flood going down the valley, and when he did not return they went out to look for him and found only his stick. Their fears that he had fallen in and been swept away were confirmed when his body was found the next morning lodged in the trees some distance below. He was 84 years of age; was one of the first band of Germans to arrive at Lihue some 40 years ago and has never been away from here. He leaves an aged widow; a son, August Klussman of Grove Farm; and one daughter in Portland, Oregon, and one in Honolulu.
