KULA. Roberi Kula, son of Representative and Mrs. J. K. Kula of Koloa, died of tuberculosis at noon last Friday at the home of his parents in Lawai, Koloa. He was in Honolulu until two months ago when he returned to Kauai with his mother, apparently well. Deceased was born in Koloa, Kauai, on April 10, 1897. When he attained school age, he was enrolled at the Koloa government school. He remained there until the fall of 1912 when he entered the Honolulu School for Boys. Two years later, he entered Punahou and was a member of the class of 1916. He was also a member of the Penahou Glee Club and the football team. About a year ago, young Kula, who was anxious to do something after school hours, was given a clerkship with the Hawaiian Board. With his knowledge of Hawaiian, stenography, and typewriting, he soon proved a valuable assistant. He was identified with the work in the "Young People's" department under Rev. Akaiko Akana. While in Honolulu, he and his parents attended the Kawaiahau church. He was a member of its choir. He was instrumental in organizing the Kawaiahau Intermediate Christian Endeavor Society, and was, until illness overtook him last fall, its "live wire." At a memorial service held Sunday at the Koloa church, of which the deceased was a member, Rev. Kaulili, commenting on the young man's unusual activities in church work, expressed the wish that more of such service be given by Hawaii's young people.
