OLD KAMAAINA DIES. At the close of the baseball game at Waipouli on the Fourth, a wireless message was received by Allan McGuire, one of the Punahou team, conveying the news of the death of his father, J. J. McGuire of Waimea, Kauai. He left Waimea some three or four weeks ago and went to Honolulu to take treatment for his throat. It was finally found that an operation was necessary, and as the result of this operation he succumbed. McGuire was a kamaaina on the Islands, having been here upwards of 30 years and having served in various capacities all over the group. He was a boilermaker by trade and has done a good deal of that sort of work. For upwards of a year, he had been manager of the Waimea end of the Lihue Ice and Soda business. He was richly endowed with the characteristic qualities of a likable Irishman. He had a keen sense of humor and a very ready tongue in dispensing the same. With this ready wit went a genial disposition which made him popular with men, and to crown his Irish qualifications, he was generous to a fault.
