John Morich, a 17-year-old youth of Kekaha, was found dead in a cane field, having been shot in the head with a 45-70 caliber rifle that lay at his side. The boy had been in the habit of taking the gun to work with him. His parents, who were against this practice, had forbidden him to take this gun and had hidden it away from him. On last Monday morning, he managed to get possession of the gun, and unknown to his parents, took it along with him when he left home to go to work in the field. When Morich did not return for his breakfast at the usual time, his parents expressed anxiety for his safety. Meanwhile, some laborers who were applying fertilizer in the cane field came across his body. The bullet, which had gone through the top of his head, made it difficult to identify the youth, but upon inquiring at the camp who was missing, Morich's identity came to light. It is believed the gun was accidentally discharged.
