Mahi Puulei, a well-known Hawaiian police officer of the Hanalei district, died at 11 o'clock Saturday morning after an illness of nearly two years, aged about 60. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, being attended by a large number of friends, interment being in the cemetery at Wainiha. Deceased left a wife and nine children living. He had 17 children but had lost 8 of them. Besides being a police officer, Puulei was in charge of the Ahupuaa of Lumahai, except the rice lands, the property belonging to the Liliuokalani Trust.
