OLD TIME RESIDENT OF KAPAA PASSES FROM PNEUMONIA Joseph Scharsch, Sr. well known resident of Kapaa, died last Friday as the result of pneumona. He was 84 years old. Interment took place at the Kealia Catholic cemetery. Scharsch was born in Alsace-Lorraine on August 3, 1849, the eldest of twelve children. He came to Kauai fifty-six years ago and worked for the Kilauea Sugar Co. for seventeen years. Later he moved to Kapaa where he worked for the Makee Sugar Co. for thirty years. He retired some years ago. He is survived by three brothers, one in Africa, one in Paris and one in California; seven children, Mrs. Edward Morgan, Mrs. Enoka Lovell, Mrs. W. A. Fernandez, Mrs. Daniel Smith, Mrs. Y. Hamamoto, Edward Scharsch and Joe Scharsch, Jr., and twenty-four grandchildren.
