Anton Schieber, foreman of the Standard Oil Company, who was so badly injured that he died when a tank exploded in Honolulu last Thursday, was a Kauai boy, being the son of William Schieber, head mason of the Lihue Plantation Company. Thursday morning a wireless arrived at Lihue, stating that young Schieber had met with an accident and that two ribs were broken. The assumption here was that it was an auto accident. A later wireless stated that the young man was in a serious condition and finally came the news of his death. Schieber, senior, was working in the mountains, but the information contained in the messages was conveyed to him. When the news of death arrived, Herr Pastor Isenberg of the German church offered to accompany Mr. Schieber to the city for the purpose of conducting the funeral; and the two gentlemen left by the W. G. Hall from Koloa on Friday afternoon. Young Schieber attended the German school in Lihue and was well known here. A brother is connected with the Rapid Transit Company in Honolulu. Mr. Schieber has had remarkably ill luck with his sons. One died on the voyage from Europe, one was drowned on Kauai, and one was drowned about two years ago at Honolulu. A daughter is the wife of Henry Gehring, plumber of Honolulu.
