During a fit of insanity last Thursday, Heiji Shinsato, aged 40 of Kekaha, inflicted wounds on his wife with the family butcher knife from which she died the following day. After cutting his wife, he then cut his own throat and abdomen, these wounds also resulting fatally. He died about an hour and a half later at the Waimea hospital. Sinsato had just returned to his home in Kekaha after work and without any warning attacked his wife with the knife. Her screams brought in neighbors, and it was then that he used the knife on himself with such deadly effect. Sheriff Crowell of Waimea was called and rushed both husband and wife to the Waimea hospital. The husband died shortly after, but the wife lingered until the next day. It was thought at first that the wife might recover, but the shock was too great and she weakened rapidly that evening and died Friday. No known cause can be found except that the husband had been acting strangely of late, and neighbors claim that he had been showing symptoms of insanity. The couple were survived by four children, the oldest of which is 11 years. It is said that friends of the family intend to adopt the orphans and will attempt to do so legally.
