SILVA, MANUEL G. JR.
YOUNG BOY KILLED BY AUTOMOBILE.  Manuel G. Silva, Jr., nine-year-old son of Manuel 
G. Silva, Sr. of Kalaheo, was almost instantly killed last Tuesday morning when he 
was run over by a Dodge automobile owned by Antone Medeiros, Sr. and driven by 
Antone Medeiros, Jr.  The accident occurred between 10 and 11 o'clock. The Silva 
boy and one or two small companions were following a McBryde truck and trailer up 
the hill in front of J. I. Silva's Kalaheo store, trying to get a little cane from 
the trailer to eat. Medeiros was driving from Eleele to Lihue and was approaching 
the advancing truck. He saw the boys coming behind the truck and blew his horn in 
warning. One of the boys ran from behind the truck and crossed the road safely. 
The little Silva boy attempted to follow him, but the car was too close to him 
when he started across. The driver put on his brakes but was unable to stop the 
machine until both the front and the rear right wheels had passed over the boy's 
body. It was immediately apparent that the boy was seriously injured. He was 
rushed at once to the Koloa hospital, but he died in the machine before it could 
reach the hospital. The driver of the car claims that he was only going 15 miles 
an hour at the time he approached the loaded truck and the boys, and that the 
distance was so short when he saw the boy crossing the road that he was unable to 
stop the machine. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Manuel G. 
Silva in Kalaheo.
