Uhenia Torre, Puerto Rican, living and working at Koloa, shot himself with a 38-calibre revolver at about 5 o'clock Sunday evening and died shortly after. The man had been sick for some time and appeared to have heart trouble. He had also been drinking. About 4 o'clock in the afternoon, he went out and met on the road one Usedio Perry, another Puerto Rican. A quarrel ensued, and Perry slapped Torre on the face. Torre then returned home and told his wife about the assault. The wife advised him to go to see Deputy Sheriff Blake and have Perry arrested. He thereupon left the house, ostensibly to carry out this advice. A short time later the man arrived back at his home, however, and told his wife that he was ashamed to visit the Deputy Sheriff for the reason that he had recently come out of jail for one offense and had been mixed up in another ugly affair. The woman left him on the veranda and went out into the backyard for a moment and while out there heard the report of a pistol. Rushing back to the veranda, she found Torre had shot himself and was in a dying condition. A coroner's jury investigated the case and returned a verdict of suicide.
