HANAI
AGED RETAINER OF KUHIO IS DEAD.  The funeral of Hanai, the old retainer of Delegate

Prince Kuhio, was held by the Williams undertaking parlors in Fort Street to the 
Pauoa church cemetery yesterday afternoon. Rev. H. H. Parker of Kawaihau church 
officiated. The services were well attended by old Hawaiians as Hanai was well known

in his office as retainer in the royal household. Hanai was born on the island of 
Kauai in 1825, the year after King Kuamaulii of Kauai died. Hanai was made retainer

in the royal family when but a boy and continued in service until death.
