A Filipino boy named Rofino, aged about 18, employed by Hanamaulu section of Lihue plantation, was drowned in the Hanamaulu stream about 1 o'clock last Thursday afternoon. He was wading in the edge of the stream, fishing. Two Filipinos and a Hawaiian who were on the other side saw him go down but thought he was diving and paid no further attention for a time. After a while, however, they noticed that the boy had disappeared and gave the alarm. A man named George Richards answered the call for help and jumped in and went downfinoseveral times, finally finding the body. Life was then extinct. The case was so plainly one of accidental drowning that Sheriff Rice did not consider a coroner's inquiry was necessary.
