Born May 19, 1898, Wailuku, Maui, son of William Eugene Bal, Sr., and Mary (Bailey) Bal; married Lily Ching, Wailuku, July 1. 1926; daughter, Imogene Leiola Bal; member Maui Country Club. 'Y. M. I. Going to work as a clerk for the Maui Dry Goods & Grocery Co. and the Kahulul Store, 1915-17, after having received his education in the Wailuku public schools, St. Anthony School, and Kamehameha Preparatory School, with postgraduate work at St. Anthony School, Mr.Bal turned to public service in 1918 when he became a clerk in the office of the Maui County auditor. He was appointed second deputy in 1926, first deputy, March 1, 1927, and was elected auditor in the election of November, 1927, which responsible office he has continued to occupy. Mr. Bal had a year of service in the National Guard of Hawaii during the World war period, in 1918.
