Orr jessicanorr@gmail.com March 5, 2012, 8:55 pm MAUI NEWS 1949 (From HC&S Breeze) Mr. Patrick George Robertson of Paia, who has worked for the HC&S Company for 37 years will officially retire on May 1. Born in Scotland on October 11, 1883, he attended schools there and spent his childhood days on a farm. Hearing of the many fine opportunities offered in the islands, Mr. Robertson at the age of 24, arrived on Maui on January 1908 and worked at the Paia Post Office for three years. In 1911, he took a job at the Paia Meat Market and worked there for about a year. In 1912, he assumed the position of Field Auditor with the former Maui Agricultural Co. and retained this post for many long years. A few months prior to the merger of the HC&S Co. and MA Co., he worked on the Payrool Office and for the past five months, Mr. Robertson has been in charge of the Paia section of the Payrool Department. Mrs. Robertson, the former Lilie Fogg, served as a Camp Nurse for the Paia Hospital for several years. Their twin daughters, Mary and Margaret, are attending Maui High School. The family takes a very active part in church affairs. During his spare moments, Mr. Robertson takes care of his large, spacious yard and works in his fern house where he raises many beautiful plants. Mr. and Mrs. Robertson and their daughters will leave Maui on May 5 and will fly from Honolulu on May 8 to California. They will spend about three weeks there visiting Mr. Robertson’s brother and their many friends. The family will then motor through the states taking in the different sights and will visit relatives in Vancouver on the way to New York. After spending about three months on the Mainland, they will depart from New York on the Queen Mary on August 12 for Scotland where they plan to reside with Mr. Robertson’s sister on a farm. When the girls complete their schooling in Scotland, Mr. and Mrs. Robertson plan to return to the Islands or California. Mr. Robertson anticipates on doing many things which he had planned for the past years on what leisure moments he had and to help around the farm.
