Published by the Honolulu Star Bulletin, 1925 Author: Edited by George F. Nellist ERNEST CARL LOUIS BRECHT, Plantation Manager. Although still a comparatively young man, Ernest C. L. Brecht, manager of the Waianae Company’s sugar plantation, on the island of Oahu, has had experience in the sugar industry in both Europe and America, but for twenty years he has been continuously engaged in Hawaii. Born at Reinstorf, Germany, June 6, 1885, the son of Ernest and Helene (Barckhausen) Brecht, Mr. Brecht received a high school education in Hanover and was then employed in a beet sugar factory. Just past the age of 20, Mr. Brecht arrived at Honolulu, Nov. 10, 1905, and joined the Pioneer Mill Co., Ltd., at Lahaina, Maui, as agriculturist, and for nine and a half years was division overseer at Kaanapali. Mr. Brecht resigned his position with Pioneer Mill Co. on Sept. 1, 1919, intending to go to the Philippines, but while in Honolulu was offered and accepted the managership of the Waianae Company on Sept. 7, 1919. During his residence on Maui he was vice-president of the Lahaina Ice Co., 1910-19, and in 1917 and 1918, during the World War, served his adopted country loyally as chief registrar of the selective draft. He has been district fire warden at Waianae since 1919. Mr. Brecht is a member of the Pacific Club and Honolulu Auto Club.
