Nellist JOHN HARRISON FOSS, Civil Engineer. Ten years of service on the faculty of Stanford University failed to dispel the charm that Hawaii had laid upon John H. Foss during his employment in the islands from 1903 to 1907 and he returned to the Territory in 1918 to assume his present position as engineer for a number of extensive Maui industries. Born in California on Jan. 7, 1879, he is the son of James C. and Lavinia D. Foss. He was educated at Stanford University, A.B., 1903. Mr. Foss came to the islands and was associated with the Maui Agricultural Co. as engineer from 1903 to 1907, when he was recalled to the mainland as a member of the faculty of his alma mater. He resigned in 1918 to return to the islands and accept his present position of engineer for the Maui Agricultural Co., Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Co., Kahului Railroad Co., and the East Maui Irrigation Co. He is a member of Sigma Psi, honorary scientific fraternity, a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, and a member of the American Society of Engineers.
