Nellist LUIZ RODRIGUES GASPAR, Physician and Diplomat. Arriving originally at Honolulu as an assistant ship surgeon in 1907, Dr. Louis R. Gaspar returned in 1909 as surgeon of another liner and has remained in the Territory since, practicing his profession and serving as vice-consul for Portugal in Hawaii. Born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, April 16, 1874, Dr. Gaspar is the son of Luiz Rodrigues and Maria Amelia (Pestana) Gaspar. He received his education at the Funchal Medical School, Madeira, and the University of Brussels. He married Maria Izabel Rodrigues, July 17, 1902. They have one son, Louis A. R. Gaspar, who was a noted athlete at Stanford University. Dr. Gaspar is a member of the Oto-Rhino-Laringologie Society of Brussels, the Lusitana, San Antonio and Sao Martinho societies of Honolulu, and is an Eagle and a Moose.
