Nellist CHARLES REED HEMENWAY, Corporation Official. Beginning his career in Hawaii in 1899, as a teacher at Punahou, and as a lawyer in 1901, Charles H. Hemenway first established himself in his field as an executive of one of the oldest and largest commercial establishments in the Territory. He is now a vice- president and assistant manager of Alexander & Baldwin, Ltd., sugar factors. In 1907, eight years after his arrival in the islands, during virtually all of which period he had practiced law, Mr. Hemenway was appointed attorney general of Hawaii, holding office for two and a half years, when he again engaged in private practice until 1915, when he first became associated with Alexander & Baldwin. Since 1910, Mr. Hemenway has been a regent of the University of Hawaii and has served as a trustee of Leahi Home since 1916. He has been a vice-president and director of American Factors, Ltd., since 1918. Mr. Hemenway was born at Manchester, Vt., 1875, the son of Lewis Hunt and Maria (Reed) Hemenway. He is a descendant of Ralph Hemenway of Yorkshire, England, who settled at Roxbury, Mass., early in the 17th century. He received his education at the Burr & Burton Seminary at Manchester, later attending Yale University, where he received an A. B. degree in 1897. He married Jane Munson Colburn at Manchester Center, Vermont, July 25, 1901. Mr. Hemenway was president of the Bar Association of Hawaii in 1915. During 1914 he was president of the University Club. He also holds memberships in the Oahu Country Club and the Hawaii Polo and Racing Club.
