Nellist JAMES HENDERSON, Corporation Executive. James Henderson, president and manager of the Hawaii Mill Co., general manager of the Hilo Electric Light Co., and a leader in business and civic affairs of Hawaii, has been a resident of that island for a quarter of a century. Born at Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Jan. 11, 1876, the son of John and Ann (Ogston) Henderson, Mr. Henderson was educated in the Aberdeenshire schools, arrived at Honolulu May 24, 1900, and three days later went to Hilo. Mr. Henderson was blacksmith for the Hilo Sugar Co., June 1, 1900, to March 31, 1906; team overseer, Hakalau plantation, April 1, 1906, to March 31, 1910; team overseer, Hawaii Mill Co., April 1, 1910, to May 31, 1910, when he was promoted to head overseer, holding the position until Sept. 30, 1912, when he was appointed manager, succeeding W. H. C. Campbell. He purchased the Hawaii Mill Co. from H. Hackfeld & Co., Ltd., in Sept., 1915, and was its owner and general manager until Dec. 1922, when he sold the cane interests of the property to the Hilo Sugar Co. He is still president and manager of the Hawaii Mill Co., however. He has been general manager of the Hilo Electric Light Co. since Feb. 1, 1923. Active in fraternal and civic matters, Mr. Henderson is a life member and past exalted ruler of Hilo Lodge No. 759, B. P. O. E.; treasurer, Kilauea Lodge, No. 330, F. & A.M.; member Aloha Temple, Mystic Shrine, and an honorary member of Al Malaikah Temple, Los Angeles, and a life member and past president of the Hilo Yacht Club. He was a member of the Fair Commission of Hawaii, 1917-19; chief registrar, 8th precinct, 1st representative district; secretary and member of the Hawaii Draft Board, Division 1, during the World war; fire warden, Hilo district, 1918-22; member, Hawaii Tourist Bureau, 1917- 21; and has been chairman of the Board of Appraisers since July, 1922. Mr. Henderson married Lydia Lei Macy in Hilo, Oct. 23, 1909, and they have four children, Lei Rebecca Ogston, Harold James, Helen Lamb and Jack Henderson.
