Nellist EDGAR HENRIQUES, Capitalist. Always deeply interested in civic affairs, Edgar Henriques has remained active in the public life of Honolulu since his retirement from business and is now secretary of the Hawaiian Historical Society, chairman of the Kamehameha Day celebration committee, a member of the Territorial Land Board and has served as chairman of the Dance Hall Commission for Oahu. From his arrival in Honolulu in 1896 until his retirement in 1924, Mr. Henriques was in the real estate business and acted as trustee for several estates. His hobby is the collection of Hawaiian curios, and he has the finest private collection in the Territory, his native objects including utensils, kahilis, calabashes, tapa, a complete file of photographs of the Kamehameha dynasty, many fine oil paintings of the Kamehamehas, and other articles. The greater portion of this collection is now at the Bishop Museum, where it was placed as a loan exhibit. Mr. Henriques is also extremely interested in Hawaiian history, has been secretary of the Hawaiian Historical Society for many years, and has aided in the compilation of previously unwritten historical facts. During the World War he was a member of the territorial draft board for two years. Before coming to Hawaii Mr. Henriques was engaged in the road contracting business in New York. He was born in New York City on Aug. 15, 1865, the son of Dr. A. J. and Elizabeth (Cohen) Henriques. He attended the public schools of New York. In 1898 he married Lucy Kalanikiekie Davis of Honolulu. He is a member of the National Geographic Society, Honolulu Chamber of Commerce, Ad Club and Chiefs of Hawaii.
