Nellist KARL B. HILL, Business Man. Karl B. Hill, vice-president and manager of the Moses Office Equipment Co., Ltd., has been connected with that firm for the past three years. The company, which was incorporated in Honolulu in 1924, has an unusual history, having been established originally as a branch of the Moses Stationery Co., Ltd., of Hilo, and represents the first successful attempt of a Hilo business house to branch out in Honolulu. Started here in 1920, the business grew so rapidly that quarters were expanded twice before the corporation of the local firm in 1924. At that time the then branch store purchased the Personal Service Bureau, thereby obtaining valuable agencies which were held by Miss Georgie Fitzgerald, who joined the Moses organization. Rapid expansion of the business is due to the high quality of merchandise handled, each line carried in Honolulu having been manufactured by specialists in that field. The local store is an organization of factory trained sales people with a knowledge of office conditions and equipped to give service from the standpoint of consumers’ problems. A resident of the islands since 1921, Mr. Hill for a year was connected with the Volcano Garage, Hilo, in charge of the tire department. Before taking his present position he made a tour of the United States, visiting various factories represented in Honolulu by the Moses Office Equipment Co., Ltd. During the World War he was an ensign in the United States navy and for two years after peace was declared was connected with the United States Shipping Board. Born at Henrietta, Tex., Jan. 30, 1897, Mr. Hill was educated in the schools of Illinois, later attending Illinois College where he received a B. S. degree in 1917. He married Betty Nicholas in 1921 at Los Angeles. They have one son, Robert Karl Hill. Mr. Hill is a Mason, Elk, a member of the Phi Omega fraternity, Commercial Club and is treasurer of the Manoa Tennis Club.
