Nellist EDWARD HORE, Magistrate. Leaving the profession of education in 1889, Edward Hore entered public service as a deputy tax assessor and collector, and has served as district magistrate for Waialua for more than 30 years. Born at Gillingham, England, April 25, 1857, he is the son of William Thomas and Elizabeth (Kelly) Hore. He arrived in Hawaii in June, 1872, accompanying Bishop Willis of the Protestant Episcopal Church. He was appointed a teacher in the Iolani School, leaving in 1875 to take charge of the English Mission school at Waialua. He served there until 1878, when he was recalled to Iolani School as vice-principal. On April 16, 1881, Mr. Hore severed his connections with the Anglican Mission to accept an appointment as principal of the Hauula English school under the Honolulu Board of Education. He was transferred to Kaneohe, Aug. 17, 1883; to Waianae, Aug. 19, 1887, and to Waialua, Aug. 7, 1889. He accepted an appointment as deputy tax assessor and collector for Waialua in January, 1889. On June 13, 1893, he accepted his present position of district magistrate for Waialua. He has been licensed to practice law in the district courts of the Territory since 1903, the year in which he became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Mr. Hore married Kualii Mokumaia on Oct. 13, 1891, at Waialua. They have five children, Abel Harry P., Edward Hore (deceased), William Thomas K., Elizabeth Sophie K. and Victoria Albertina K.
