Nellist ROBERT HORNER, Business Man. Although he says “I am a born farmer like my father, and a great lover of the soil,” Robert Horner, successful business man of Honolulu, has made good in commercial life. Today he is the head of a growing amusement concern, besides being a stockholder and official in many of the largest sugar plantations in the Territory and a director of other business enterprises. Mr. Horner aided his father, the late John Mears Horner, in the development of the extensive Horner ranch holdings on the island of Hawaii. He inherited from his father a love for agriculture and engaged in the cultivation of sugar cane until 1912, when he disposed of his ranch interests and removed to Honolulu, where he established the Bethel Street Amusement Hall. Mr. Horner is a tennis enthusiast and is president of the Neighborhood Tennis Club. He is also an ardent follower of horse racing. He heads the Bailey Furniture Co. as president, and has extensive realty holdings in the business district of Honolulu. Recently he purchased the Odd Fellows’ Building and took over the Model Block. In 1914 he was elected a member of the Board of Supervisors and was chairman of the police committee, a member of the Elks and Commercial Club. Mr. Horner was born in Alameda, Calif., Sept. 11, 1866, the son of John Mears and Elizabeth (Imlay) Horner, pioneers of California. He was educated privately and in the public schools of California and a Punahou School. In 1897 he married Amy Adele Blacon of Alameda and their children are Carroll Weeks, Elizabeth Emily, Clarence Alvin, Florence Amy, Anita Marjorie, Anna Josephine and Harold Richards Horner.
