Nellist WILLIAM FOSTER HORNER, Banker. W. F. Horner was graduated from Stanford University in 1917, after preliminary education at St. Matthew’s Military Academy, and entered the first officers’ training camp at the Presidio, San Francisco, immediately upon his graduation. He was commissioned as second lieutenant in August, 1917, and was assigned to Camp Lewis, Wash., with B Co., 347th Machine Gun Battalion. He went overseas with the 91st Division in June, 1918, and was chosen as aide-de-camp by Gen. J. B. McDonald in September of that year. His promotion to first lieutenant came in November, 1918, and he was honorably discharged in June, 1919. He participated in the battle of the Argonne from Sept. 25 to Oct. 4, 1918, and was at the front in the Lys-Schelt sector from October 29 until the armistice was signed on Nov. 11, 1918. On his return from the war, Mr. Horner became associated with the Bank of Hawaii, Ltd., in its Lihue, Kauai branch. One year later he was promoted to assistant cashier at the Kapaa branch of the same institution and soon thereafter was selected manager of the bank, a position he has held since. Born at Kukaiau, Hawaii, on Oct. 23, 1895, he is the son of Albert and Florence (Winter) Horner. He is a member of the Kauai Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, and Sigma Chi, the national collegiate fraternity. He married Florence Paine, Sept. 14, 1920. A daughter, Barbara Horner, was born Dec. 27, 1921.
