Nellist JEROME O’NEILL HUGHES, Lawyer. Educated for his profession in Georgetown University Law School, Washington, D.C., where he received his LL.B. degree in 1924, Jerome O. Hughes was admitted to the bar in February, 1924, and four months later was appointed assistant United States attorney for the Territory of Hawaii by Attorney General Harlan Fiske Stone. Mr. Hughes immediately returned to his native city, Honolulu, and assumed his duties, holding office until he resigned in April, 1925. Born in Honolulu, July 27, 1900, he is the son of John A. Hughes, master car builder for the Oahu Railway & Land Co., Ltd., and Katherine (Matthews) Hughes. His early education was received at Punahou, Honolulu; and Georgetown Preparatory School, Washington, D.C. While still attending college Mr. Hughes forked for the law firm of Wilson, Huidekoper & Lesh in the national capital. He is an Elk and a member of Phi Alpha Delta fraternity.
