JOHN ALEXANDER JOHNSON, Automobile Dealer. Wide experience in a general 
commercial business and four years with an automobile concern, was the 
training that particularly fitted John A. Johnson, president of Burgess & 
Johnson, Ltd., for the executive direction of his firm, handling automobiles, 
accessories, and tires, and acting as manufacturers’ agents and distributors 
of various products other than automotive. Burgess & Johnson, Ltd., has the 
agency for Reo, Pierce Arrow and Hupmobile automobiles, Moreland trucks, and 
Kelley-Springfield and Mohawk tires. The business was established in 1922 by 
Mr. Johnson and E. W. Burgess.
  Before going into business for himself, Mr. Johnson was treasurer and office 
manager of the Royal Hawaii Sales Co., Ltd., from 1918 to 1922, and previously 
had spent three years as accountant with the Schuman Carriage Co., Ltd., and 
twenty-three years with C. Brewer & Co., Ltd., where he began work as an 
office boy in 1888. At the time of his retirement from this firm in 1911 he 
was chief accountant and cashier.
  Mr. Johnson was born in Honolulu, June 30, 1873, the son of William and 
Margery (Cattanach) Johnson. There are representatives of four generations of 
Mr. Johnson’s family buried in Nuuanu cemetery. He attended the Fort Street 
school. In 1905 he married Nancy Lindsey of Bismarck, Ill., and they have two 
children, Ralph Lindsey and John Alexander, Jr. Mr. Johnson is a member of the 
Commercial and Oahu Country Clubs.
