Nellist JAMES JOHNSTON, Plantation Manager. Long experience in various capacities in the sugar industry of Hawaii preceded the appointment of James Johnston to the position of manager of Kaiwiki Sugar Co., which he has held since 1913. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, July 25, 1882, the son of Robert and Isabell Johnston, he was educated in the public schools and at an agricultural college. For seven years he engaged in farming in his native land, before deciding to come to Hawaii because of his interest in the sugar industry. He arrived in the Territory, Dec. 14, 1903. For three years he was a team luna at Ookala, Hawaii, and then served for two years as a bookkeeper. For the next five years he was head luna at Ookala plantation, being promoted in 1913 to his present post. He married Jeanie A. T. Milne in Honolulu, Oct. 13, 1914, and they have two sons, Edwin M. and Harvey Johnston. Mr. Johnston is a Mason.
