Nellist CHARLES SHELDON JUDD, Territorial Forester. Preservation of the material and natural resources of Hawaii as executive officer of the Territorial Board of Agriculture and Forestry is the important public service to which Charles S. Judd has been devoted for more than a decade. After his preliminary education at Punahou School, he attended Yale University, receiving the degree of B.A., in 1905 and the degree of M.F. from the Yale Forest School in 1907. He entered the United States Forest Service as forest assistant, being promoted to assistant chief of silviculture and later to assistant district forester, working mainly in Oregon and Washington. Mr. Judd was appointed land commissioner for the Territory of Hawaii in July, 1911, and served until March, 1912, when he returned to the federal forest service. In January, 1915, he accepted his present position of executive officer, superintendent of forestry and chief fire warden, board of agriculture and forestry, Territory of Hawaii. He taught forestry at the University of Hawaii for one semester, has written extensively on forestry and was a member of the B. P. Bishop Museum scientific expedition which visited the Pacific islands of Nihoa, Necker and French Frigate Shoals in 1923. Born in Honolulu, July 11, 1881, Mr. Judd is the son of the late Albert Francis Judd, famous chief justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii, 1881-1900, and Agnes Hall (Boyd) Judd. His grandfather, Dr. G. P. Judd, was one of the first American physicians in Hawaii, a noted statesman of the old monarchy and a confidential adviser of King Kamehameha III. Mr. Judd is a member of Sigma Xi national fraternity, Society of American Foresters, American Society for the Advancement of Science, and the Outrigger Canoe Club, Honolulu. He married Louise Luquiens at New Haven, Conn., June 11, 1910.
