Nellist LAWRENCE M. JUDD, Merchant. A senator in the territorial legislature for four years, former colonel in command of the Hawaiian National Guard, former treasurer and chairman of the Republican Territorial Central Committee, and director of several large corporations, Lawrence M. Judd, manager of the grocery and tobacco departments of Theo H. Davies & Co., Ltd., is active in the civic, political and business life of Hawaii. In the senate from 1920 to 1924, Mr. Judd served as chairman of the military committee and a member of the committees on education, public health and judiciary, and during the last session he presided as president of the upper chamber of the legislature. Particularly noteworthy was Mr. Judd’s world war record. He enlisted as a private at the outbreak of the war and, advancing rapidly, was a major of the 1st Hawaiian Infantry, National Guard, captain commanding a machine gun company, aide de camp to the brigadier general commanding the first brigade, and in 1920 was a colonel in command of all the troops of the Hawaiian National Guard. He is now a lieutenant colonel of Infantry, United States Reserves. Mr. Judd is a director of E. O. Hall & Son, Ltd.; Union Mill Co.; Theo H. Davies & Co., Ltd.; vice-president and director, Pearl City Fruit Co., Ltd.; vice-president, the Association of Hawaiian Pineapple Canners and a member of its advertising and standardization committees; director, National Canners’ Association of Washington, D.C.; vice-president and treasurer, Hanahauoli School; trustee of the Honolulu Dental Infirmary and warden of St. Andrew’s Cathedral. He is a prominent Shriner and a potentate of Aloha Temple, former president of the Commercial Club and is a member and former director of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Oahu Country Club. He is president, Punahou Alumni Association; general chairman, Y.W.C.A. Building Fund Campaign (1925); member, executive committee, St. Louis College Building Campaign; trustee, Palama Settlement and the Strong Foundation, and a member of the Humane Society. Mr. Judd held several important positions on the mainland before returning to his native Honolulu to enter business. He was with the Carnegie Steel Co. in Pittsburg, Pa., the Whiting Paper Co. of New York, from 1906 to 1909, and was buyer for Alexander & Baldwin, Ltd., in Honolulu from 1909 to 1914. Since 1914 he has been with Theo. H. Davies & Co., Ltd. Mr. Judd is a son of Albert Francis and Agnes Hall (Boyd) Judd. His father was justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii from 1874 to 1900 and one of the leading men in the upbuilding of the Territory. His grandfather, Dr. G. P. Judd, a medical missionary who came to Hawaii in 1828 and was advisor to King Kamehameha III from 1842 to 1853, was an outstanding figure in the early life of Hawaii. Born in Honolulu, March 20, 1887, Mr. Judd’s education was received at Punahou School, Oahu College and Hotchkiss School, and in 1909 he attended the University of Pennsylvania. He married Florence Hackett, daughter of John B.
