Nellist GEORGE EDWARD JURGENSEN, Shipping Manager. Beginning business life as an office boy with the former W. G. Irwin & Co., Ltd., in 1901, George E. Jurgensen has advanced to his present position as manager of the shipping department of C. Brewer & Co., Ltd., agents in Honolulu for the Oceanic line, the Nippon Yusen Kaisha and the General Steamship Corporation steamers. Remaining as assistant in the freight department after the amalgamation of W. G. Irwin & Co., Ltd., with C. Brewer & Co., Ltd., Mr. Jurgensen was promoted to his present position in 1919. He has taken an interest in politics and has served as an election judge in the seventeenth precinct of the fourth district. From 1917 to 1918 he was a member of the Hawaii National Guard. Born at Honuapo, Kau, Hawaii, Mr. Jurgensen is the son of the late Jacob and Mathilda Jurgensen. His father came to the islands in 1880 and for many years was a sugar boiler at the Spreckles plantation at Spreckelsville, Maui. He was also chief engineer and sugar boiler at the Hutchinson Sugar Plantation Co. at Honuapo, Kau, Hawaii, for 18 years. He died at Honolulu in 1900. Mr. Jurgensen attended St. Louis College and the pubic schools. He has traveled extensively in Australia and on the mainland.
