Nellist WILLIAM F. KAAE, Public Official. Former secretary to the late Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii, William F. Kaae for many years has been county clerk of Maui. Born in Lahaina, Maui, Sept. 5, 1870, he is the son of Junius and Kukakina Kaae, and was educated at St. Louis College, Honolulu, class of 1890. For two years after leaving college Mr. Kaae was a clerk with the Union Ice Works, Honolulu, resigning in 1892 to become copyist in the Bureau of Conveyances. He remained there until 1893, when he became secretary to Liliuokalani and served in that capacity until 1895. He was a teacher in the Roman Catholic mission, Lahaina, 1896-1897, and was a timekeeper at the Pioneer Mill Co., Lahaina, 1898-1901. He was elected county clerk of Maui in 1905 and has been re-elected for each subsequent term. He was chairman of the Maui draft board during the World war and was a member of the National Guard of Hawaii from 1905 to 1915, then assigned to the reserve as a captain, and finally at his own request honorably discharged, 1921. He married Alice Shaw at Lahaina in 1901 and they have one child, William I. Kaae.
