Nellist DAVID KEOLA KALAUOKALANI, City and County Clerk. Holding the office of city and county clerk of Honolulu for twenty years, David K. When a youth, he assisted his father, the late David Kalauokalani, who was widely known as editor of a Hawaiian paper, in formulating new political policies which became necessary when the government of Hawaii changed from a monarchy to a republic and then, in 1898, to a Territory of the United States. He was also active in the Home Rule Party of Hawaii, the first political party formed after annexation. He was in Washington until 1902. Mr. Kalauokalani was appointed clerk of the House of Representatives in 1905 and later in the same year was elected city clerk, an office he has since held. He was appointed a member of the Naval Militia Board by Governor Pinkham in 1915, serving until 1919. Born in Honolulu, Jan. 3, 1874, Mr. Kalauokalani is the son of David and Hattie (Mahoe) Kalauokalani. He received his education at St. Louis and Oahu Colleges, Honolulu, later attending the National University, Washington, D.C., where he studied law. He married Marguerite Keao Hobron, July 31, 1917, and they have three children, Haig, Maynard and David Kalauokalani.
