Nellist HARRY LIVINGSTON KERR, Architect and Builder. Coming to Hawaii in 1897, Harry L. Kerr, architect and builder, has had a constructive career in the islands. Following his profession here for more than a quarter of a century, he has taken an active part in the building expansion of Honolulu. Among the buildings he has designed are Mission Memorial Hall, McCandless building, Ewa School, the Mid-Pacific Institute and approximately 900 other buildings and residences. Since 1920 Mr. Kerr has designed and built a large group of apartment dwellings in the Waikiki district. Born in Ulster County, New York, Sept. 11, 1863, Mr. Kerr is the son of William H. and Mary D. (Tronson) Kerr. He received his education in the private schools of New York state and after several years in an architect’s office, branched out in business for himself in 1883. Before coming to Hawaii he followed his profession in New York City until 1885, spent five years in San Diego, went to Portland, Ore., in 1890 and from 1890 to 1896 maintained offices in Southern California. He has two children, Harold L. and Catherine L. Kerr. Mr. Kerr is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Commercial, Rotary, Automobile and Pan-Pacific clubs.
