Nellist EDWIN D. KILBOURNE, Physician. Edwin D. Kilbourne, physician and surgeon, came to Honolulu to practice medicine in association with his brother-in-law, Dr. James R. Judd, after serving for 12 years in the Medical Corps of the United States Army. For a time he was a member of the United States Army Board for the study of tropical diseases, stationed in Manila, and he is recognized as an authority on tropical and military medicine, being the author of numerous articles dealing with these phases of his profession. Dr. Kilbourne was also clinical instructor in pediatrics in Northwestern University Medical School from 1901 to 1902, and was bacteriologist for the Chicago Health Department from 1899 to 1902. In 1902 he entered the army as a first lieutenant in the Medical Corps and served until 1914. For the last seven years of his military service he held the rank of captain, and from 1914 to 1915 he was a major in the National Guard of Hawaii. One of the attending physicians and surgeons to Queen’s Hospital, Dr. Kilbourne has been a member of the Territorial Board of Health, was president of the Medical Society of Hawaii for one term and was chairman of the medical advisory board during the World war. Dr. Kilbourne holds memberships in the University and Oahu Country clubs. He is a member of Nu Sigma Nu fraternity, the American Medical Association, Medical Society of Hawaii and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. He was born in Elgin, Ill., June 6, 1877, the son of Edwin A. and Louise (Kilbourne) Kilbourne. His education was received at Northwestern University Medical School, from which he was graduated in 1899, and the United States Army Medical School. In 1899 he married Alberta I.
