Nellist FREDERICK GEORGE KIRCHHOFF, Civil Engineer. Assistant engineer with the Hawaiian Dredging Co., Ltd., and the Hawaiian Contracting Co., Ltd., since 1919, Frederick G. Kirchhoff has been closely connected with many of the largest engineering works in the Territory. In his present position he has assisted in the construction of the new Inter-Island Steam Navigation Co.’s piers, the installation of new oil tanks and fire wall for the United States Shipping Board, construction of the Federal building, erection of the steel frameworks for piers 8, 9 and 10, for the territorial Board of Harbor Commissioners, erection of nine ordnance buildings at Schofield Barracks, the installation of a water and sewer system at Pearl Harbor and Ford Island, excavation work and grading and wharf construction in connection with the oil storage plant at Pearl Harbor Naval Station, the installation of Waikiki sewers, building of the New Princess Theater, Leahi Home and other important contracts. Mr. Kirchhoff was born in Honokaa, Hawaii, March 27, 1881, the son of Mathias and Calena (Wilhelm) Kirchhoff. His first position was with the territorial Department of Public Works in Honolulu, where he worked as a rodman, instrument man and engineer from 1899 to 1904. He then enrolled in the college of engineering, University of California, from which he obtained his B.S. degree in 1908, and became a draughtsman for the Southern Pacific Co. in Portland, Ore. From 1909 to 1910 he was inspector on construction for the distinguished architect, John Galen Howard of the University of California architectural department. He also served as inspector on the construction of Agricultural Hall on the University of California campus, and in 1911 returned to Hawaii and became assistant engineer with the territorial Department of Public Works. In 1914, when the waterworks and sewer department was transferred from the territorial government to the city and county of Honolulu he continued in the department and was appointed general manager in 1917, holding office until 1919, when he assumed his present position. In 1916 and 1917 he was a member of the First Co., Coast Artillery Corps, National Guard of Hawaii. He is a member of the American Association of Engineers, Hawaiian Engineering Association and University of California Alumni Club. In 1915 Mr. Kirchhoff married Bernice H. Kelley of Berkeley, Calif.
