Nellist GEORGE KIRKPATRICK LARRISON, Hydraulic and Civil Engineer. Major G. K. Larrison came to Hawaii in 1912 as district engineer of the Water Resources Branch of the United States Geological Survey in which capacity he served until he entered the Army in 1917. During this period he served as chairman of the Territorial Water Commission which made its report in 1917. Major Larrison served successively as a captain of coast artillery in the National Guard in 1916 and 1917 and as a captain and major of engineers during and after the World War, including a short period as aide-de-camp to Major General Black, Chief of Engineers, at Washington, D.C. While on duty as assistant department engineer with the headquarters of the Hawaiian Department he conceived and completed preliminary investigations which have resulted in the completer “Ku Tree” water storage project, which supplies Schofield Barracks. He is a major in the engineer officers’ reserve corps and has had several periods of active service in this capacity. Since the war Major Larrison has specialized in hydraulic engineering. He is considered one of the leading authorities on local water supply and artesian wells and is chief of the water supply division of the Territorial Water and Sewer Commission. He also designed and constructed the Waipahu sewer system, the Waianae road and other important engineering projects. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. As one of the organizers and scout masters of Troop 36 of Boy Scouts, known as the American Legion troop, Major Larrison takes keen interest in scout activities. He served as vice-commander of Honolulu Post No. 1 of the American Legion in 1923, is a member of the University Club, the Honolulu Choral Society and is secretary-treasurer of Honolulu Alumni Chapter of Sigma Chi, national fraternity. Born at Lincoln, Ill., Major Larrison is the son of Winfield Scott and Rose E. (Kirkpatrick) Larrison. He received his education at the University of Illinois, ’03, and was married to Martha Warner Lacey of Havana, Ill., at Manila, P.I., in 1906.
