Nellist DAVID COLVILLE LINDSAY, Banker. A resident of Hawaii since 1890, David C. Lindsay, former cashier and manager of the Baldwin Bank, Ltd., at Kahului, Maui, has devoted more than a quarter of a century to the development of financial and commercial resources of his community. He has also taken an active part in civic life, holding high positions in business organizations and public commissions. Born in Kirriemuir, Scotland, June 23, 1870, Mr. Lindsay is the son of James and Betsy (Colville) Lindsay. He received his education in common and private schools of Scotland and spent six years with a large mercantile establishment in Scotland before coming to Hawaii. He entered the employ of Paia Plantation in 1890, and was appointed manager after its amalgamation with the Haiku Sugar Co. in 1906. He organized and was made manager of the Baldwin National Bank and when it was reorganized as the Baldwin Bank, Ltd., in 1921, Mr. Lindsay became cashier and manger, a position he resigned on April 7, 1925, to enable him to spend several months on the mainland and in Scotland. He is president of the Maui Electric Co., treasurer of the Haiku Fruit and Packing Co., and a director of the Maui Soda and Ice Works. In public life Mr. Lindsay is chairman of the Lahainaluna school commission, a member of the board of public instruction, treasurer of the Maui County Fair Association, deputy customs collector at Kahului and U. S. Immigration inspector for Maui. He served for three years in the 42nd Royal Highlanders, Scotland, and is a lieutenant colonel in the Hawaii National Guard. He married Clara Fowler Gregory at Paia, Maui, in 1895. They had four children, Olive Douglas, Dorothy Colville, Elizabeth Clare and Ruth Charlotte Lindsay. He is a Mason, 32nd degree K. C. C. H., Knight of Pythias, a trustee of the Maui Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Commercial Club in Honolulu.
