Nellist ROBERT LISTER, Retired Industrial Manager. In the pineapple industry, second only to sugar in Hawaii, Robert Lister spent a quarter of a century as manager and constructor of canneries, until in 1922 he resigned as superintendent of the Kohala Pineapple Co., at Mahukona, Hawaii. Born at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on April 15, 1850, the son of James and Elizabeth Lister, he was educated in the public schools and began work as an apprentice in the machine trade in Canada, and soon turned his attention toward the canning industry. He was instrumental in fitting up the Lusk Canning Co., Oakland, Calif., in 1899, and was superintendent of the King Morse Canning Co., San Francisco, for some time. He later constructed the Woodstock Fruit Cannery in Sydney, Australia, and returned to California to build the San Leandro Cannery for the King Morse Company. Mr. Lister arrived in Honolulu in 1901 and became superintendent of the Thomas Pineapple Co., later building and becoming manager of the Kohala Pineapple Co.’s plant at Mahukona, a position now held by his son. He married Sarah R. Goff of Hamilton, Ontario, on April 9, 1872, and they have two children, E. W. and Archie E. Lister. Mr. Lister is a member of Honolulu Lodge No. 616, B.P.O. Elks.
