Nellist OREN ETHELBIRT LONG, Educator. Oren E. Long, principal of the Kauai High School since 1924, has devoted his career to social service and educational work. Born at Altoona, Neosho county, Kansas, on March 4, 1889, the son of George Riley and Melissa Jennette (Johnson) Long, Mr. Long was educated in the Altoona public schools and at Kimberlin Heights Academy; classical course, Johnson Bible College, A. B., 1912; University of Michigan, A. M., 1916, and Columbia University, A. M. and diploma, 1922. Coming to Hawaii in 1917, he was engaged in social settlement work at Hilo, September, 1917, to September, 1918; Army and Navy Y.M.C.A. secretary, Honolulu, September, 1918, to September, 1919; member of McKinley High School faculty, 1919-20; plantation work, 1920-21; school work in Pennsylvania, 1922- 24, returning to the islands in the latter year to assume his present position.
