Nellist EDWARD BACKUS LOOMIS, Civil Engineer. First arriving in Honolulu in 1908, Edward B. Loomis, engineer for the B. P. Bishop Estate, returned to the mainland after a year’s stay here, during which he was engaged in public work, holding positions as assistant city and county engineer and assistant territorial surveyor. He again came to the islands three years later, assuming his present position in 1912. While attending school at Lincoln, Neb., Mr. Loomis held a position in the engineering department of that city and upon completion of college work in 1905 was in the employ of the Tri-State Irrigation & Land Co. in Wyoming until 1907. Until his departure for the islands he was engaged as a draftsman for the C.B. & Q. railway at Lincoln, Neb. During his absence of three years from Honolulu, Mr. Loomis was construction engineer for the Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation at Seattle, Wash. Born at Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 5, 1884, Mr. Loomis is the son of Carlton Edward and Altie (Backus) Loomis. He received his education in the schools of Lincoln and the University of Nebraska. Mr. Loomis and Isabelle McCorriston were married in Honolulu, Sept. 29, 1914. They have two children, Jane and John Edward Loomis. He is a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the University Club.
