Nellist APAU PAUL LOW, Civil Engineer. One of the few men of his race in Hawaii who have taken up the profession of engineering Apau Paul Low has risen to the position of county engineer of Maui and to a high place in Free Masonry of the Territory. Born in Honolulu, July 22, 1891, the son of Yee Sing Low, he was graduated from McKinley High School in 1910. He received his A. B. degree in civil engineering from Stanford University in 1914 and took post-graduate work at the University of Illinois and Stanford in 1914-1915. Returning to the islands he was appointed United States inspector on the Hilo breakwater construction and the next year became assistant county engineer of Maui. He served until 1918, when he was appointed Maui loan fund engineer and county engineer for the county of Maui, which position he has held up to the present time. Mr. Low is a past master of Lodge Maui, No. 472, F. & A. M.; senior warden, Iao Lodge of Perfection, and is a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Kahului, Aloha Temple, Mystic Shrine, and the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 5. He is a member of the American Association of Engineers, Maui Chamber of Commerce, Chinese University Club, Honolulu; the Maui County Fair and Racing Association, and the Native Sons and Daughters of Hawaii, being first president of council No. 7. He married Anne V. Tong on Aug. 22, 1916.
