Nellist LEE LUP, Lumber Dealer. Senior partner and manager of the firm of Lee Lup & Co., Lee Lup has been established as a contractor, lumber and hardware merchant of Honolulu since 1911, when he purchased the interests of the Lee Chu Lumber Co. He has been at work since he was sixteen years of age and was employed for more than twenty years by the Oahu Lumber and Building Co., and for seven years by the Lee Chu Lumber Co., which he acquired. In 1923 Mr. Lup extended his business to include a hardware department. Engaged also in contracting and building, he has erected many residences in Honolulu and has held contracts for construction work at Ewa, Honolulu and Waialua plantations. Born in Honolulu in 1881, Mr. Lup is the son of Lee Tung and Chun Shee. Taken to China as a child, he was educated there, returning to Honolulu to enter business life. Although residing in Hawaii since 1897, he has since made several trips to China. He married Chun Shee in Honolulu in 1903 and they have ten children. Mr. Lup is a member of the Chinese Merchants’ Association, president of the Chinese Carpenters’ Association, which he reorganized in 1915; vice-president of the Mun Lun Chinese school, president of the Kwong Hing Realty Co., and a director of the Tong Fat Co., Ltd. In 1904 he went to Formosa where, for more than a year he was associated with his father-in-law, Chun Yee Kau, president and manager of the Sing Tai Chan Co., one of the largest merchandising firms in Formosa.
