Nellist WILLIAM REED MCALLEP, Sugar Technologist. By profession a chemist, William R. McAllep, sugar technologist with the Hawaiian Sugar Planters’ Association experiment station in Honolulu, has had long experience in the technical branches of cane and beet sugar production. He has been identified with the sugar industry of the islands since 1915, beginning his career here as assistant and later was acting and associate technologist for the planters’ association. In addition to his present position at the experiment station, which he assumed in 1920, Mr. McAllep is a member of the University of Hawaii faculty, acting since 1919 as a lecturer on sugar technology. He served as vice-president of the Association of Hawaiian Sugar Technologists in 1922 and served as president of that organization in 1923. Before coming to the islands Mr. McAllep for thirteen years was connected with the Western Sugar Refining Co., the Union Iron Works and various beet sugar companies on the mainland. Born at San Francisco, Calif., Sept. 28, 1880, Mr. McAllep is the son of William I. and Mary D. (Reed) McAllep. He received his education in the schools of California and at the University of Southern California. Mr. McAllep and Laura Carman Sanders were married at Kemptville, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 30, 1923. He is a Mason, Elk, a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, American Chemical Society, was a member of the University Club (Los Angeles) and belongs to the Commercial and University Clubs of Honolulu.
